This time, we’re time travelling back to 2012 - I originally released this on my YouTube channel eight years ago and it’s been a staple of my setlists ever since (in fact, I don’t think I’ve played a single solo show without this song). I remember when I first wrote Hums, lyrically and musically I wanted to write something happy and simple, and I think I accomplished both of those in spades. I’ve even heard people humming and whistling the harmonica part and even the melody after finishing a set with this song.
Cool detail: if you watch my right hand (my right), you’ll see that even back then I was switching between my fingers and a pick for dynamics, something I tend to do a lot when playing solo acoustic sets.
