The year is 2008 - the world is either dealing with or about to deal with a financial crisis, the likes of which hasn’t been seen in decades. Hard to believe that was a dozen years ago, and harder still to believe we’re going through another, worse, global crisis in 2020.
I’ve always loved The Gaslight Anthem’s first few records. Their folk/punk stylings were honest and catchy, and any one of their songs can be pared down to an acoustic arrangement and still retain so much magic. Great Expectations is one of those songs that lends itself really well to this format.
Anyways, here’s a fun rendition of Great Expectations by The Gaslight Anthem, off of their second studio album The ‘59 Sound.
